Dr. David H. Hettler, O.D.

Diplomate, Board Certified: American Board of Optometry

Dr. David Hettler is a principal partner of a seven-office private optometric group located in Northern Virginia. He first attended Ohio State University where he earned a B.S. degree. He continued at the Ohio State University College of Optometry, earning his O.D. in 1984. He has since completed the Executive Optometrist Program at the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Since 1996 Dr. Hettler has been a Certified Low Vision examiner to the Commonwealth of Virginia. He is a former President of the Northern Virginia Optometric Society, a winner of the AOA Optometric Recognition Award, The Vanguard Award, which is presented to the outstanding young optometrist by the Virginia Optometric Association, and in 2010 was named Optometrist of the Year by the Virginia Optometric Association. He is also the VOA's committee chair for the VOPAC and the Federal Relations Committee.

Dr. Hettler was appointed by the Governor of Virginia to the Virginia Board of Health Professions where he served from 2003-2007, and was President of the Virginia Board of Optometry from 2004 - 2010. He is a member of the AOA, the VOA, and the AOA Contact Lens Section. He also served as a consultant to the Vision Care Institute, a division of Johnson & Johnson, and is a consultant to MCG Capital, and Glenview Capital Management, both of whom invest in the optical/vision care markets.
